Building General Web Directory (indexu.net)

Here I'll show you how to build general web directory something similar with what I have done with http://www.indexu.net. If you haven't there yet, visit the website before read my explaination below.

1. Do fresh indexu installation
2. Go to admin panel
   • Change admin password
   • Change email address
   • Import the category data which contain 427 categories. This step alone will save you spending hours for data entry. Download the data file at http:www.nicecoder.com/community/showthread.php?t=3822
   • Update category path
3. This is optional. Upload and activate simpla template from http://www.indexuthemes.com. If necessary change the color. It will require photoshop work, and a few css modification. Most of time will be spent in this step.
4. Start adding some new links before you promoting your directory. I prefer go to google for certain area and ask indexu to fetch meta tags. Just enter the url and proper category, then indexu will fill the title, description, and email address.
5. Now it's ready to receive new submission.
6. Announce your directory to http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=65. As my experience, I have over 100 new submission in my first day. Don't miss it! and good luck with your web directory. Keep adding new links and promote constantly, then you can expect to sell featured listing for next few month.
